Santana had a good day at the plate. He stroked a base-hit knocking in a run in the 2nd inning, doubled in the 6th inning, doubled plating two runs in the 7th inning and delivered a solo blast in the 9th inning. The Baltimore offense man-handled the Washington pitching staff as they scored in 7 of the 9 innings. The victory was credited to Castillo(15-9) who went 6 innings, allowing 5 runs. Howie Kendrick was next and he reached on an error. Josh Bell then drew a walk to load the bases. Joey Gallo followed next and he would hit into a force play bringing in a run. Javier Baez stepped into the box and smacked a single scoring the final run of the inning. Chicago out-hit Texas for the game, 9 hits to 6. The game started off with Boston taking the lead in the first when they scored 5 runs on 3 hits. That was all the runs Justin Verlander(17-6) needed. Boston provided plenty of action in the 1st inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 3 hits and the 8th inning when they had 5 runs on 6 hits. The Boston offense smacked the Cincinnati pitching staff around, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings. The losing pitcher was Mike Clevinger(12-9). Mercado was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided much of the offense for the visitors. He laced a one-base hit which scored a run in the 4th inning, lost the ball over the fence for three runs in the 7th inning and laced a single in the 9th inning. Detroit had many opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6 separate innings. The victory went to Dobnak(4-3) who went 5 innings, allowing no runs. Chris Paddack(5-12) ended up with the loss. That early run support was enough for Clayton Kershaw(18-5) and Los Angeles. Cleveland was out-hit by Los Angeles, 10 hits to 6. Tanner Roark(3-11) was charged with the loss. He gave up 7 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.
