First baseman Pete Alonso jacked one out of the ballyard and had 3 RBI as the
Boston Red Sox man-handled the St. Louis Cardinals - the final score was 10
to 0.
 
Boston took the lead for good in the bottom of the 2nd inning scoring one
runner on 2 hits.  That early run support was enough for Tyler Glasnow(1-0)
and Boston.  Boston finished with 14 hits while St. Louis ended up with 3.
 
Rhett Lowder(0-1) was the loser.  He was unable to control the Boston offense
and allowed 9 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.

Tanner Houck struck out 12 batters as the Philadelphia Phillies bested the
Atlanta Braves in 12 innings 4 to 2 at Truist Park.
 
The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings.  Philadelphia won the
hard fought contest in the 12th inning.  After two were out Nick Gonzales
jump-started the rally as he ripped a single.  Lourdes Gurriel stepped up to
the plate and he bombed a two-run dinger.  Overall Philadelphia out-hit
Atlanta 11 to 5.  
 
Trevor Megill(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 and 2/3
innings. Tanner Scott got the save, his 1st.  Collin Snider(0-1) absorbed the
loss in relief.  He pitched 1 inning giving up 2 hits and no walks.

At Globe Life Field, the Texas faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel.  Chris Sale(1-0) finally bested his Los Angeles(NL)
counterpart, Nathan Eovaldi(0-1), by the score of 2 to 1.
 
Los Angeles(NL) fell behind quickly as the Texas offense came through in the
first inning plating an isolated run utilizing 2 base hits.  Texas took care
of Los Angeles(NL) with no trouble in the 9th.  
 
Jason Adam recorded his 1st save.  The loss was charged to Eovaldi.  He gave
up 2 runs and 6 hits in 5 and 1/3 innings.

Paul Skenes whiffed 15 batters as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Kansas City
Royals by a score of 2 to 1.
 
Skenes(1-0) pitched a solid game.  He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 3
hits and 3 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.  The Kansas City bats were silent in
the bottom of the 9th.  
 
Skenes got help from Kyle Finnegan who was credited with his 1st save.  Jose
Butto(0-1) was given the loss.  'I had my good stuff tonight.' Skenes said.
'As the game went along I started to get the feeling that I was going to
strike out a bunch of hitters.'
